Radiator Season Night Mask
A light overnight layer for heated rooms: aloe vera gel goes on cool and thin, glycerine holds water at the surface, and squalane seals the lot without any grease.

You will need
- 1 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerine
- 1/2 tsp squalane oil
The ritual
- Stir the aloe vera gel and glycerine together in a small clean pot.
- Whisk in the squalane until the mixture stops looking streaky.
- Smooth a thin layer over your face last thing, avoiding the eye area.
- Leave it on overnight and rinse or wipe it off in the morning.
Why these ingredients
- 1 tbsp aloe vera gel
- Aloe gives the mask its light, cool body and spreads thinly enough that you can comfortably sleep in it.
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerine
- Glycerine pulls water towards the surface of the skin, which is the part central heating keeps taking away.
- 1/2 tsp squalane oil
- Squalane goes over the top as a light seal, so the layer beneath stays put through a warm dry night.
Easy swaps
- 1 tbsp aloe vera gel → cucumber gel or a light unscented gel moisturiser.
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerine → honey, stickier but just as good at holding water.
- 1/2 tsp squalane oil → jojoba, or a few drops of sunflower oil.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Keeps a week in a covered pot in the fridge. Aloe and water with no preservative do not last, so mix a small batch.
What to expect — honestly
You wake with skin that feels comfortable rather than tight, which is most of what a heated bedroom takes from you. The effect lasts until you wash. It is nightly upkeep and not a change in your skin's condition.
Common questions
Is glycerine not drying in winter?
It can feel that way in very dry air used on its own. That is why the squalane goes over the top: it keeps the glycerine layer from giving its water back to the room.
Can I use it in the morning?
Yes, under makeup, but use half as much. A thick layer stays tacky for a while and anything you put over it will slide.
