Pomegranate Lip Splash
A fleeting lip wash where pomegranate juice leaves a faint rosy stain, glycerin holds a little moisture in place, and cooled boiled water thins the whole thing to a wash.

You will need
- 1 tsp pomegranate juice
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin
- 1/2 tsp cooled boiled water
The ritual
- Stir the pomegranate juice, glycerin and cooled boiled water together in a clean eggcup.
- Dip a clean cotton bud and sweep it across clean, dry lips.
- Let it sit for a minute, then blot gently with a tissue.
- Follow with a plain lip balm to stop the glycerin feeling tacky.
- Tip away whatever is left, and do not decant it into a bottle.
Why these ingredients
- 1 tsp pomegranate juice
- The colour. It leaves a thin rosy wash on the lip surface, which is all a fruit juice can honestly be expected to do.
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin
- A humectant that draws water to the surface and gives the wash a little cling, so it is not gone the moment it dries.
- 1/2 tsp cooled boiled water
- Dilutes the juice into a wash rather than a sticky concentrate, and boiling first keeps a preservative-free mix cleaner.
Easy swaps
- 1 tsp pomegranate juice → beetroot juice for a deeper pink, or cherry juice for a warmer one.
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin → honey, which is stickier but works the same way.
- 1/2 tsp cooled boiled water → a splash of rosewater, provided it is from a fresh sealed bottle.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Single use only, mixed fresh. Fruit juice, sugar and water with no preservative spoil fast, so discard the rest immediately.
What to expect — honestly
You get a soft rosy wash that reads as slightly brighter-looking lips for half an hour or so. It is not a lipstick and it will not survive a cup of tea. Treat it as a five-minute bit of fun before leaving the house, and mix it fresh every time.
Common questions
How long does the colour last?
Not long. Half an hour of faint rosiness at most, and less if you drink anything. This is a tint you top up, not a stain that sets.
Why cooled boiled water rather than tap water?
Because it is going on lips and there is no preservative here. Boiled and cooled water keeps the mix cleaner for the few minutes it exists.
