Tea Tree Jojoba Spot Oil — homemade facial rituals & serum ingredients styled for the recipe

You will need

The ritual

  1. Measure the jojoba oil into a small clean glass bottle or dish.
  2. Add exactly one drop of tea tree oil and one drop of vitamin E.
  3. Cap and roll the bottle gently between your palms to blend.
  4. Dab a trace onto one spot with a clean cotton bud at night.
  5. Leave it on, and use it once a day at most while the spot is there.
Glow tip ✦ Use a cotton bud rather than a fingertip so you place the oil on the spot itself and not across the whole cheek.

Why these ingredients

2 tsp jojoba oil
A light liquid wax that spreads thinly and sinks in fast, so a dab does not sit greasy on one small area.
1 drop tea tree essential oil
One drop gives the blend its clean herbal scent and its character, and kept to a single drop it stays within a sensible leave-on strength.
1 drop vitamin E oil
An antioxidant that slows the oils going stale, which matters in a small bottle you will open again and again.

Easy swaps

Keep it clean

Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.

Storage & when to let go

Keeps three months in a dark glass bottle away from heat and light.

Allergy check ✦ Patch test on your inner arm for 24 hours first, as tea tree sensitises some people, sometimes after months of happy use. Keep it away from the eyes, lips and broken skin. Avoid essential oils in pregnancy unless your midwife agrees, and do not use this on children.
Patch-test first ✦ Apply a little of the finished mix to your inner arm and wait 24 hours. No reaction is a good sign, though no patch test can rule out every reaction. Never use a recipe on broken or irritated skin, keep everything out of your eyes, and stop at once if anything stings or burns.

What to expect — honestly

You get a light, non-greasy dab that makes a spot feel looked after and the skin around it less dry-looking. It will not clear a breakout, shorten how long one lasts, or do what a pharmacist's or dermatologist's product does. Treat it as a small caretaking ritual rather than a treatment.

Common questions

Can I add more tea tree to make it stronger?

No. One drop in two teaspoons is already about the sensible ceiling for something you leave on skin. More is not better, it is just more irritating.

Can I use it all over my face?

Better not. This is a targeted dab for one or two spots. Jojoba on its own, with no tea tree in it, is the version to use across the whole face.
