Cucumber Aloe After-Shave Gel
A cool gel for skin that has just been scraped: aloe dries to a light film, cucumber juice cools, and glycerin keeps the whole thing from drying tight.

You will need
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1 tbsp cucumber juice, strained
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin
- 1 tsp cooled chamomile tea
The ritual
- Grate half a cucumber and press the pulp through a fine sieve.
- Whisk the cucumber juice into the aloe gel until no streaks remain.
- Stir in the glycerin and the cooled chamomile tea.
- Chill in the fridge for thirty minutes before the first use.
- Smooth a thin layer over clean, freshly shaved skin and let it dry.
Why these ingredients
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
- The body of the gel. It dries to a light film that feels cool on skin which has just been shaved.
- 1 tbsp cucumber juice, strained
- Water and a fresh smell. Straining matters, since pulp left in will spoil in a day rather than three.
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin
- Holds water at the surface so the gel does not dry to a tight, papery finish as it sets.
- 1 tsp cooled chamomile tea
- A soft herbal note and extra water, which thins the aloe just enough to spread over a whole leg.
Easy swaps
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel → fresh aloe leaf, blended and strained, if you have a plant.
- 1 tbsp cucumber juice, strained → cooled green tea, same amount.
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin → a quarter teaspoon of honey, whisked in well.
- 1 tsp cooled chamomile tea → calendula tea, or plain cooled boiled water.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Fridge only, and use within three days. Cucumber juice and tea have nothing preserving them, so it will turn faster than you expect.
What to expect — honestly
Skin feels cooler and less tight straight after shaving, and it looks calmer while the gel is on. That is an hour or so of comfort, not a change in the skin, and it will not stop ingrown hairs or razor bumps. A fresh blade does more for those than any gel.
Common questions
Can I use it on my face after shaving?
Yes, on clean skin and well away from the eyes. Keep it off any nicks, and follow with a plain moisturiser once the gel has dried.
Can I make it stronger?
There is nothing to strengthen. More cucumber juice just makes it runnier and it will spoil faster, so keep the proportions and keep it cold.
