Calendula Cocoa Pocket Balm
A pocket-sized balm of calendula-infused oil for its soft herbal character, cocoa butter for body, and beeswax to hold it firm enough to carry around all day.

You will need
- 1 tbsp calendula-infused oil
- 1 tbsp cocoa butter
- 2 tsp beeswax pellets
The ritual
- Put all three into a heatproof jug set in a pan of simmering water.
- Stir gently until the beeswax and cocoa butter have melted completely and the mix runs clear.
- Lift the jug out carefully with a cloth, as it will be very hot.
- Pour into a small clean tin or jar and leave it undisturbed.
- Let it set for about an hour at room temperature before putting the lid on.
Why these ingredients
- 1 tbsp calendula-infused oil
- The liquid base and the herbal character of the balm, giving it a soft golden colour and a gentle, faintly grassy scent.
- 1 tbsp cocoa butter
- Adds solidity and a rich buttery drag, so the balm feels substantial on skin rather than thin and oily.
- 2 tsp beeswax pellets
- Sets the whole thing firm enough to live in a pocket and forms the protective film that stays put on dry patches.
Easy swaps
- 1 tbsp calendula-infused oil → chamomile-infused or plain sunflower oil, with less herbal character.
- 1 tbsp cocoa butter → shea or mango butter, both softer, so add a little extra wax.
- 2 tsp beeswax pellets → candelilla wax at roughly half the amount for a vegan balm.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Keeps six to nine months in a closed tin somewhere cool and dark. There is no water in it, so it does not need refrigerating.
What to expect — honestly
It sits on dry elbows, knuckles and shins as a soft protective layer and makes them look less dull and flaky. This is protection and comfort rather than anything happening inside the skin, and it will not sort out cracked or painful patches. Reapply after washing, since it comes off with soap.
Common questions
My balm came out too hard. Can I fix it?
Yes. Melt it down again and stir in another teaspoon or two of the infused oil, then reset it. Nothing is wasted by remelting.
Can I use it on lips?
It is fine on lips as written, since all three ingredients are edible and there is no essential oil in it. Decant a little into a separate pot.
