Zinc Cream Nightly Dot
A chemist-cupboard dot for the night: zinc oxide cream sits as a soft matte layer over a spot, aloe vera gel thins it enough to spread, and jojoba stops it feeling chalky.

You will need
- 1/4 tsp zinc oxide cream
- 1/4 tsp aloe vera gel
- 2 drops jojoba oil
The ritual
- Squeeze the zinc oxide cream into a small dish or onto a clean saucer.
- Work in the aloe vera gel with a cocktail stick until smooth and spreadable.
- Add the two drops of jojoba oil and stir once more.
- Dot a thin layer onto the spot only, after your usual evening cleanse.
- Leave it overnight and wash it off gently in the morning.
Why these ingredients
- 1/4 tsp zinc oxide cream
- Zinc oxide sits on the surface as a soft matte layer, which makes an angry-looking spot far less shiny overnight.
- 1/4 tsp aloe vera gel
- Aloe loosens the thick cream so it goes on as a thin dot rather than a lump you can feel.
- 2 drops jojoba oil
- Two drops keep the dot from drying chalky, so it comes off in the morning without dragging at the skin.
Easy swaps
- 1/4 tsp zinc oxide cream → plain calamine lotion, which behaves similarly but dries harder.
- 1/4 tsp aloe vera gel → rosewater, a few drops at a time until it spreads.
- 2 drops jojoba oil → squalane or a single drop of sunflower oil.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Mix fresh each night. The dish will keep a day covered, but there is no reason to make more than a single dot.
What to expect — honestly
The spot generally looks calmer and much less shiny by morning, and the area is easier to cover. That is what a matte layer does overnight. It is not acne treatment, and anything painful, spreading or scarring belongs with a GP.
Common questions
Will it be visible on darker skin?
Yes, zinc oxide reads as white on every skin tone. That is exactly why it goes on at night and comes off in the morning.
Is nappy cream really meant for faces?
It is not formulated for it, but a plain zinc cream on one spot overnight is a very old trick. Do not spread it across the whole face.
