Post-Gym Cool Down Mist — homemade body care ingredients styled for the recipe

You will need

The ritual

  1. Brew the green tea, let it cool completely, then strain it through a coffee filter.
  2. Whisk the aloe vera gel into the cold tea until no lumps remain.
  3. Add the witch hazel, pour into a spray bottle and chill for an hour.
  4. Mist over your face, neck and forearms with your eyes closed after training.
  5. Let it air dry rather than towelling it off.
Glow tip ✦ Freeze a small bottle overnight and pack it beside the water flask. It thaws to properly icy by the end of a session.

Why these ingredients

4 tbsp chilled brewed green tea
Chilled tea is the body of the mist and carries the cold. It also smells faintly grassy rather than of nothing at all.
2 tbsp witch hazel
It evaporates fast and takes the clammy feeling with it, which plain water on hot skin does not manage.
1 tsp aloe vera gel
A teaspoon stops the witch hazel drying skin tight, without making the spray sticky or blocking the nozzle.

Easy swaps

Keep it clean

Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.

Storage & when to let go

Keeps three days in a covered bottle in the fridge. Tea with no preservative turns quickly, so make small batches and bin anything cloudy.

Allergy check ✦ Patch test on your inner arm first. Keep it out of the eyes and off freshly shaved skin, where witch hazel will sting. Stop using it if it leaves your face feeling tight.
Patch-test first ✦ Apply a little of the finished mix to your inner arm and wait 24 hours. No reaction is a good sign, though no patch test can rule out every reaction. Never use a recipe on broken or irritated skin, keep everything out of your eyes, and stop at once if anything stings or burns.

What to expect — honestly

It cools you down faster than standing about does, and skin feels less clammy while you wait for a cubicle. The effect lasts a few minutes, no more. It is not a shower, and it will not do what a shower does.

Common questions

Why not just use cold water?

Cold water works and evaporates in seconds. The witch hazel and aloe make the cool last a little longer and leave skin feeling less clammy.

Will it disturb my makeup?

It will soften anything you reapplied after training. Mist first, let it dry fully, then do your face rather than the other way round.
