Marshmallow Root Heel Wrap
A slippery herbal wrap for bedtime: marshmallow root steeps into a mucilage that clings to hard heels, and shea butter seals it in under a cloth and a sock.

You will need
- 2 tbsp dried marshmallow root
- 250 ml just-boiled water
- 1 tsp shea butter
The ritual
- Pour the just-boiled water over the marshmallow root and leave it twenty minutes.
- Strain out the root and let the slippery liquid cool to comfortably warm, never hot.
- Soak two strips of clean cloth in the liquid and wring them out lightly.
- Wrap a strip round each heel, pull on a sock, and sit down for twenty minutes.
- Unwrap, pat dry, and massage the shea butter into each heel.
Why these ingredients
- 2 tbsp dried marshmallow root
- Steeps into a slippery mucilage that clings to hard heels far better than plain water on a cloth ever would.
- 250 ml just-boiled water
- Draws the mucilage out of the root. Let it cool properly before any of it goes near your skin.
- 1 tsp shea butter
- Goes on last to seal the damp skin under a sock, so the wrap does not simply evaporate off.
Easy swaps
- 2 tbsp dried marshmallow root → dried mallow leaf, or slippery elm powder at half the amount.
- 250 ml just-boiled water → the same volume of cold water, left to steep overnight instead.
- 1 tsp shea butter → cocoa butter, or a plain thick foot cream you already own.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
The strained infusion keeps two days covered in the fridge. Warm it gently before use, and bin it if it smells at all sour.
What to expect — honestly
Heels feel supple by the time you get into bed and stay that way overnight under a sock. It softens the surface only. Thick callus builds back and needs regular filing to keep it down.
Common questions
Can I use marshmallow root powder?
Yes, but use half as much and strain it through muslin. Powder makes a thicker gel that tends to leave a fine grit on the cloth.
How soon will my heels feel different?
Usually the same evening, and it lasts a day or two. Genuinely hard skin needs regular filing as well, not just wrapping.
