Festival Glitter Melt Oil
An oil cleanser for a tent with no running water: sunflower oil does the dissolving, castor oil grips glitter and face paint, and jojoba keeps the whole thing light.

You will need
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 tsp castor oil
- 1/2 tsp jojoba oil
The ritual
- Shake the three oils together in a small screw-top bottle.
- Warm a teaspoon in your palms, then massage it onto dry skin.
- Work slowly over painted areas for a full minute until everything loosens.
- Wipe it all off with a soft cloth or a reusable pad.
- Follow with a splash of water and a second cloth if you have one.
Why these ingredients
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- It makes up the bulk, dissolves face paint readily, and is cheap enough to use generously on a whole face.
- 1 tsp castor oil
- Castor is thick and slightly tacky, and that tackiness is what lifts glitter off skin rather than smearing it about.
- 1/2 tsp jojoba oil
- Half a teaspoon lightens the blend so it wipes away cleanly instead of leaving a heavy film behind.
Easy swaps
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil → grapeseed or light olive oil, both work in the same way.
- 1 tsp castor oil → an extra teaspoon of sunflower, though glitter will take more effort.
- 1/2 tsp jojoba oil → squalane, or simply leave it out altogether.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Keeps six months in a capped bottle out of direct sun. Decant a small amount into a leakproof bottle for the field and keep the big one at home.
What to expect — honestly
Face paint and most glitter come away without scrubbing, which matters when your only water is in a bottle. Some fine glitter will still be turning up on your cheeks two days later. It cleans, and it does nothing else.
Common questions
Does it work on cosmetic glitter?
It lifts most of it. Chunky festival glitter and anything with a strong adhesive will need a second pass and a bit of patience.
No water at all?
You can manage with oil and a cloth alone, but skin will feel filmy afterwards. Rinse properly when you next reach a tap.
