Safflower Oat Face Serum
Light safflower oil sinks in fast, jojoba sits close to skin's own sebum for a non-greasy finish, and a teaspoon of oat oil adds a soft, cushioned feel over the top.

You will need
- 2 tsp safflower oil
- 1 tsp jojoba oil
- 1 tsp oat oil
The ritual
- Measure the three oils straight into a small dropper bottle.
- Cap it and roll the bottle between your palms to blend.
- Warm three or four drops between your fingertips.
- Press over damp skin rather than rubbing, working outwards from the centre.
- Wait a minute before makeup so the oil has time to settle.
Why these ingredients
- 2 tsp safflower oil
- A thin, fast-absorbing oil that makes up the bulk of the blend and keeps the finish light rather than heavy.
- 1 tsp jojoba oil
- Jojoba is technically a liquid wax and sits very close to skin's own oil, so it feels tidy rather than slick.
- 1 tsp oat oil
- Oat oil is soft and slightly waxy, adding a cushioned finish and rounding off the dry edges of the blend.
Easy swaps
- 2 tsp safflower oil → sunflower, grapeseed or rice bran oil for a similar light feel.
- 1 tsp jojoba oil → squalane, which behaves much the same and never smells.
- 1 tsp oat oil → sweet almond oil, or simply more jojoba if you avoid grains.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Keeps three to six months in a dark glass bottle, away from the cooker and the window. Discard it if it smells sharp or like old crayons.
What to expect — honestly
Skin looks supple and quietly glowy, and feels comfortable well into the next morning. An oil seals water in rather than adding it, so it works best over damp skin. It will not change your skin's texture or tone in any lasting way.
Common questions
Will an oil make me greasy?
Not if you use three drops rather than a dropperful. Press it into damp skin and give it a minute; most of the shine settles as it absorbs.
Does it replace moisturiser?
For some people it does, especially in summer. Oil seals water in but does not add any, so drier skin usually still wants a cream underneath.
