Neem Turmeric Body Wash Paste
A traditional gram flour wash paste: neem and turmeric carry a long South Asian bathing history, yogurt softens the mix, and the flour gives just enough grit to clean without scratching.

You will need
- 1 tbsp neem powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp gram flour
- 2 tbsp yogurt
The ritual
- Mix the neem, turmeric and gram flour in a small non-metal bowl.
- Stir in the yogurt a spoonful at a time to a spreadable paste.
- Smooth over damp skin on the body only, keeping it off your face.
- Leave five minutes, then rub gently in small circles with wet hands.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry on an old towel.
Why these ingredients
- 1 tbsp neem powder
- A bitter, strongly scented leaf powder used in South Asian bathing for generations, leaving skin feeling clean and matte.
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- Gives the paste its warm golden colour, and half a teaspoon is genuinely enough for the whole batch.
- 2 tbsp gram flour
- Chickpea flour binds the paste and provides a soft, fine grit that lifts surface grime as you rinse.
- 2 tbsp yogurt
- Loosens the flour into something spreadable and takes the dry edge off neem, so skin feels softer afterwards.
Easy swaps
- 1 tbsp neem powder → tulsi or dried mint powder if neem's smell is too much for you.
- 1/2 tsp turmeric → kasturi turmeric, which stains far less than the cooking kind.
- 2 tbsp gram flour → rice flour or fine oat flour for a gentler texture.
- 2 tbsp yogurt → coconut milk, or plain water with a teaspoon of honey stirred in.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Single use only. This is a yogurt paste, so mix it fresh each time and do not hold any back for tomorrow.
What to expect — honestly
Skin feels clean, matte and pleasantly tight after rinsing, which suits sticky weather. It is a wash and a ritual, not a treatment for spots and not a substitute for anything a doctor would prescribe. The fresh feeling lasts until the next hot afternoon.
Common questions
Will it turn my skin yellow?
It can leave a faint tint on fair skin. Sweep the area with milk on a cotton pad and it lifts, and the last of it washes off within a day.
How often should I use it?
Twice a week at most. Gram flour is mildly abrasive and neem is drying, so more often tends to leave skin feeling rough rather than smooth.
