Mung Bean Spot Dab
A pinhead of paste for one spot: mung bean flour dries down and takes the shine off, rosewater loosens it, and a touch of honey keeps the whole thing from feeling harsh.

You will need
- 1 tsp mung bean flour
- 1/2 tsp rosewater
- 1/4 tsp honey
The ritual
- Tip the mung bean flour into a small dish and add the rosewater.
- Stir in the honey until you have a thick paste that holds its shape.
- Dab a pinhead onto the spot with a clean cotton bud.
- Leave ten minutes, until the surface has gone matte but not cracked.
- Soften with lukewarm water and lift it off without rubbing at the skin.
Why these ingredients
- 1 tsp mung bean flour
- A soft, fine flour that absorbs a little oil and dries matte without the tightness clay tends to bring.
- 1/2 tsp rosewater
- Rosewater wets the flour to a paste and leaves a faint scent rather than the smell of raw pulses.
- 1/4 tsp honey
- Honey keeps the paste supple so it lifts off easily, and stops the spot feeling stripped afterwards.
Easy swaps
- 1 tsp mung bean flour → chickpea flour, which behaves almost identically.
- 1/2 tsp rosewater → plain water or cooled green tea, in the same amount.
- 1/4 tsp honey → glycerine, if you would rather avoid bee products.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Single use only. Mix what you need each time, since honey and rosewater in an open dish will not keep past the day.
What to expect — honestly
The spot looks a little flatter and considerably less shiny for a few hours after rinsing. This is surface oil and appearance only. It will not clear acne, and repeated or painful breakouts belong with a pharmacist or GP.
Common questions
Why mung bean flour rather than clay?
It is much gentler. Mung bean takes up some oil without the tight, drawing feeling clay gives, which suits skin that reddens easily.
Can I use it on several spots at once?
Yes, as small separate dots. Spreading it as a full mask changes what it does and dries out the skin between the spots.
