First Skincare Gentle Cleanser
A soft first cleanser: oat flour gives the mildest possible rub, powdered milk turns it creamy against the skin, and a little honey stops it feeling dry as you rinse.

You will need
- 2 tbsp oat flour
- 1 tbsp powdered milk
- 1 tsp honey
The ritual
- Stir the oat flour and powdered milk together in a clean jar.
- Tip half a teaspoon into your palm and add a splash of warm water.
- Add the honey and mix into a loose, creamy paste with a fingertip.
- Massage over damp skin for twenty seconds, going gently and staying clear of the eyes.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
Why these ingredients
- 2 tbsp oat flour
- Very fine and very mild, it lifts the day off without the scratchiness of a scrub or the tightness of a foaming wash.
- 1 tbsp powdered milk
- Turns the mix creamy the moment water hits it, so it feels like a cleanser rather than wet flour.
- 1 tsp honey
- Adds a little stickiness and slip, and keeps the skin from feeling dry the moment you rinse it off.
Easy swaps
- 2 tbsp oat flour → fine oats blitzed in a grinder, or rice flour for a slightly smoother feel.
- 1 tbsp powdered milk → oat milk powder, or leave it out and use a splash of milk instead of water.
- 1 tsp honey → a few drops of glycerine, or leave it out if you would rather it were not sticky.
Keep it clean
Mix with freshly washed hands and clean, dry bowls and spoons. If a recipe is stored, use a jar or bottle washed in hot soapy water and dried completely, and never dip wet fingers into the batch.
Storage & when to let go
Keep the dry oat and milk mix sealed in a jar for two months. Add water and honey only for the wash you are about to do.
What to expect — honestly
Skin feels clean and comfortable rather than squeaky, which is what you want from a wash. That is all it is doing. It is not a treatment for spots, and it will not change how oily or dry your skin naturally is.
Common questions
Is this enough on its own?
For young skin, a gentle wash and a light moisturiser really is most of it. Long routines full of active ingredients tend to cause more trouble than they solve.
Can I scrub with it?
Please do not. Oat flour is fine enough that light circles are all it needs. Scrubbing leaves skin red and sore without getting it any cleaner.
